My name is Krystina Woychowski, and this summer, I had the opportunity to be an editorial intern for the Citrus County Chronicle. It was one of the greatest opportunities I have ever had. This summer, I have grown as a person and also as a writer. I have gained new skills, professional communication techniques, and journalist writing tips, which all can benefit me in the future. Going into the internship, I did not know what to expect, but I left with a lot more knowledge than what I came into the internship with. Everyone at the newspaper was very friendly and welcoming. The first couple of weeks, I needed some assistance with uploading articles, but by the end of the internship, I was working independently. I have been able to set foot into the life of a reporter. One of the staff reporters took me out to witness him interviewing a park specialist from Homosassa State Wildlife Park. It was an eye-opening experience to stand in the presence of a professional who has had years of experience in the field of journalism. I enjoyed being able to communicate with community leaders about addressing their need for the reader’s attention on their organization, event, or issue. Most people I met with were running non-profit organizations and were seeking help from the community to benefit their population. I have had the opportunity to showcase my creative writing skills, along with my academic writing that I have learned throughout my educational career. In the future, I would love to combine my passion for nursing and writing and partake in a career in nursing research or nursing journalism. This opportunity opened my eyes to the field of journalism, and I look forward to my future working for the Citrus County Chronicle as a correspondent.
