I applied for an internship at The Herald-Advocate because I wanted to pursue a writing career, but was self-taught in the area of journalism.
By starting as an intern, I was able to learn more about both journalism and photography through one-on-one instruction with my supervisor before being promoted to journalist at the end of the internship.
At the beginning of my internship, I hoped to gain experience and knowledge about journalism through first-hand practice and interactions with others in the industry. I had previously written two newspaper articles, but since I was writing as a freelancer and not an employee, I had not received much constructive criticism. Apply for the internship was my way of continuing my career while doing as much as I could to improve my skills and understanding.
