Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015, the Florida Press Foundation is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Florida Press Association. The Foundation’s mission is to create and promote lifelong educational programs that begin in elementary school promoting literacy and encouraging the use of media, continue through college with internship programs, and then culminate in career training and development forums for industry professionals.
In conjunction with media properties statewide, the Florida Press Foundation creates and distributes advertising that raises awareness about and promotes the benefits of literacy. The foundation also works with public and private elementary and secondary school teachers to create and conduct Newspapers in Education (NIE) programs in classrooms across the state. The Foundation’s College Internship program connects aspiring journalists and others seeking employment in the industry with Florida’s leading media companies. And for those already employed in the media industry, the foundation conducts regional training workshops on a variety of topics and capped by an annual industry convention.
